My i2 idea is a device that cleans a solar panel of dust, debris and ash particles, but without using any water. I plan to use electrostatic forces (via an electrode) to charge those particles, and then pass the electrode back over them to repel off of the solar panel. This project addresses the problem of ash and dust on solar panels, which is a really major issue because it drastically reduces the amount of energy that a solar panel is able to generate. Additionally, the amount and intensity of wildfires, especially in California, increase the amount of dust, which then increases the problem. At this stage, my project just consists of the idea and research, which is mostly just about the materials that I will need to make my idea a reality. A goal that I have for next week is to figure out how large my experiment will be, regarding the size of the solar panels and the electrode that I will use.
