The Coral Cutter
Our i2 project for 2023-24, named ‘The Coral Cutter’, has been created by Evan Major and Rye McMahon. The project is designed to address the issue of coral bleaching, which is caused by climate change and is a major threat to coral reefs around the world. Currently, scientists sample and collect corals to repopulate their numbers, as coral plays a crucial role in coastal ecosystems. However, traditional tools like hammers can be too destructive. To solve this problem, our device would seamlessly extract the coral, leaving a clean cut, without causing damage. Additionally, due to the folding mechanism, the device is easy storable. By using ‘The Coral Cutter,’ we can take a step towards remedying the problem and preserving the vital role of coral in the environment.
