My 2021-2022 i2 Project

This year for my i2 project, I chose to create a documentary about mental health and how it’s affected by social media with a partner, Sam Wai. Our plan has been to research mental health through a few sources, mainly the internet and books, and to get some interviews on social media and mental health from some people around the school. Our age demographic is from around fourteen-eighteen, so people that are still in high school. However, despite our topic remaining the same, the idea for what we’re doing has changed quite a bit. We originally were going to create a website and a 30 minute long video. However, we didn’t like the idea of making a website, so it bounced around a bit and we ended up deciding to not do it. Also, we felt that our video was unrealistically long, so we shortened it to almost half its original planned length. These decisions as well as finding people for our aforementioned interviews were and still are probably the hardest parts of the project. We took a lot of time deciding what we wanted to do, mostly because Sam and I frequently disagreed on certain things. Also, we could almost never find people in the school to interview. This is because many people said no, and we didn’t know how to approach people and ask them to be in our project. Fortunately, despite these problems, we had a ton of help from some people. The people that helped us most are Mr. Hunt, Mr. Standley, and Ms. Reese. These three teachers found us probably more than half of our interviewees, and Mr. Hunt and Mr. Standley also helped us with the actual project itself and with refining ideas. They’re also not the only people that have helped us, we’ve gotten help from every person we’ve interviewed. Over all, our project has been really fun and I’m glad I got the opportunity to work on it.
