Hayden Sterling

2023

Welcome to my page. I’m Hayden Sterling, a junior at SHC

I grew up in the Richmond District of San Francisco, California with my sister, parents, and pets.

In terms of academics, I have always really enjoyed history and math. I’ve always felt like history is a good way to learn critical thinking skills and I feel like learning about the past can help us to prepare for the future. My favorite history class that I’ve taken is AP European History because its something that I had never learned about before. Math has always been a subject that I enjoy, mostly when I can apply it to the world around me. Some of my favorite math classes have been AP Calculus AB and Trigonometry.

At school outside of classes, I have been involved in Cross Country and Track and Field, which I really enjoy after school during the fall and spring. I have enjoyed being in the Innovation and Inquiry program for the past few years, and I look forward to continuing it because it gives me a chance to express what I am passionate about.

Some of my hobbies include volunteering, hiking, and learning to play the guitar. I started a Christmas fundraiser for a volunteer program in 2020 in which I collect toys for underprivileged children, and I have continued to do this through today. I like doing many activities outdoors. Some of these include skiing and snowboarding at Lake Tahoe, rock climbing, and hiking. In the summer of 2021, I climbed Mount Shasta in Northern California with a few friends. Being outdoors has always been something that I enjoy.

In my free time, I enjoy building things with my hands. In the summer of 2020, I built a PC for myself which I use for school, video games, and really anything else I need. I also enjoy teaching myself skills like coding in Python, HTML, CSS, and Javascript and playing the guitar.

This year, my i2 project is creating a website to teach teenagers about financial responsibility and more specifically how to invest their money properly and in a smart way.
